We’re seeking a volunteer to create an eye-catching email newsletter template that will capture a reader’s attention and get them to click on various topics. Our organization currently uses MailChimp, but we are planning to switch to Constant Contact. So, we would need help migrating our subscriber list over to the new platform as well. This template design may include the following:

-Header image
-Definition of standard font type, size, and color
-Call to action button design
-Footer design, complete with links to our social media channels, unsubscribe method, address, etc.
-Instructions on how to use the template effectively to produce a monthly newsletter

An updated newsletter template will strengthen our outreach efforts and increase awareness of our work.

Operation Dignity (https://operationdignity.org/ ) is a 501c3 nonprofit that has been serving Oakland, Alameda, and Berkeley since 1993. Our organization works to house and serve the most vulnerable people experiencing homelessness, including veterans and people living in encampments. Operation Dignity has conducted street outreach to unsheltered people in Oakland since 2001 and is the City of Oakland’s primary outreach provider. We are also the largest Veterans Administration Grant & Per Diem (GPD) provider in the Bay Area and the only provider in Alameda County to offer transitional housing to women veterans and veterans with children.

Despite our amazing and impactful work, however, we’re practically unknown in the area due to a prior lack of focus on our website, social media, newsletter and other communication tools. We desperately need to improve our visibility in order to attract new supporters and funders and allow us to further expand the number of individuals and families that we can serve. This is a perfect, limited duration project for a volunteer who’s interested in homelessness and/or veterans causes, and who wants to help make a real difference to a nonprofit organization.

We are ready to switch to Constant Contact once we’ve secured experienced help with the project, and we have a dedicated staff member who will provide you with examples of emails we’ve sent previously, as well as our logo, colors, and brand guidelines. Once the template is completed, we hope to be able to use it on our own to continue to produce quarterly newsletters.

Since 1993, Operation Dignity has worked to house and serve the most vulnerable people experiencing homelessness in Alameda County, including veterans and people living in encampments. We were founded by Alex McElree, a Vietnam War veteran who had struggled with addiction and homelessness. When Alex finally got back on his feet, he collected a few beds and started a shelter in a small Oakland house. He often said, "A soldier does not leave their wounded on the battlefield. We consider the streets to be our battlefield, and Operation Dignity’s core mission is to leave no veteran behind.” Today, Operation Dignity provides shelter, housing, street outreach, and supportive services to people experiencing homelessness, with a continuing focus on veterans in partnership with the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs. Each year, we serve more than 1,000 people, including almost 200 formerly homeless veterans.
