Architect & Construction Planning Guidance

Our goal for this Taproot Plus session is to gain a foundational understanding of the architecture and construction process, especially as it relates to repurposing an existing classroom space for new uses. We’d like to use this 60-minute call to ask questions, get expert insight, and build confidence as we begin planning a pre-design and feasibility study.

Specifically, we’re hoping to:

Understand the general phases of working with an architect (from pre-design through construction)

Learn what questions we should be asking when speaking with architects, designers, or contractors

Get clarity on the construction process, including timelines, permitting, and coordination

Identify common challenges or “unknowns” we should prepare for when repurposing an existing space

Discuss realistic expectations around scope, cost, and roles/responsibilities

This is a learning conversation —we’re not looking for design work during the call, but rather guidance that helps us become more informed and better prepared as we move forward. We want to make the most of our future partnerships with design and construction professionals, and your insight will help us lay a strong foundation.
