Tax & Grant Compliance

Lost and Crowned, Inc. is an emerging 501(c)(3) public charity seeking one nonprofit accounting or tax professional to strengthen tax and grant compliance. We need focused assistance with Form 990 readiness, nonprofit tax compliance, grant budgeting, restricted fund tracking, grant financial reporting, and the financial documentation commonly required for grant applications and post-award reporting. This project is limited to tax and grant compliance processes. Accounting system design, internal controls, financial statement preparation, and audit readiness are covered in separate Taproot projects.

By the end of this 2 to 12 week project, one volunteer will deliver: 1) a Form 990 readiness and annual nonprofit tax compliance checklist; 2) a review of the financial records and documentation we should maintain for federal and applicable state compliance; 3) a reusable grant budget template; 4) a process for tracking restricted and unrestricted funds; 5) a grant financial reporting template and supporting-document checklist; 6) a checklist of financial documentation commonly needed for grant applications and reports; and 7) written recommendations for maintaining compliant nonprofit tax and grant financial records. Success means Lost and Crowned can prepare complete records for future filings and produce clear, consistent financial documentation for funders.
