Financial Audit for a Start-Up Nonprofit

We need a volunteer to complete a 1- or 2-year financial audit for our start-up nonprofit. We get the door shut in our face on many worthy grants mainly because we have not done a financial audit since starting in May 2020.

I realized I could get frustrated at the system's barriers, or I could come to Taproot and be resilient and pray that a living soul with the skillset would say YES to this request.

Our income has been less than $25K annually, with no more than 20-30 transactions on any given month. Some months there were less than 10 transactions.

When I initially investigated the cost of a financial audit, even with our in/out income being less than $25K, I discovered the average cost was about $2500. That makes it difficult for start-up nonprofits to compete. It is a barrier to the system, although it may or may not be intentional on the grantor's side.

Thank you for your interest ... (Have you ever received that subject line and knew the news wasn't in your favor?)

To be turned down for a grant that would allow our organization to reach millions of people suffering from childhood adversity is frustrating, especially given the cause. In 2022, Walt Disney World declined our very strong application for one reason: "The asking amount exceeded our previous year's revenue..."

This year (2023), Disney said no because: " Your organization did not have a completed audit..."

I currently have outsourced the balancing of transactions to someone in Pakistan. He charges us $50 a month to reconcile our budget. I can provide this as well as the financial statements and chart of accounts

Our vision is to contribute to the reduction of generational childhood adversities while increasing positive childhood experiences. We believe it is a fundamental right for every person to know that the programming from their childhood could be causing toxic disruptions in their adulthood. ACEs Matter’s vested interest in the early development of children is an essential part of a goal to develop healthy, engaged, and civic-minded adults and sustainable communities. ACEs Matter’s primary focus will be a threefold approach: Prevention (mind). Intervention (body). Education (soul). The design is a Mind, Body, Soul approach to professional, personal, and healthy family development.
