We are seeking support to secure public relations and media coverage to raise awareness of our work. National coverage is preferred, but local placements in Puerto Rico are also valuable. We are a newly established Puerto Rico-based 501(c)(3) public charity developing an Artists Residency & Study House in Río Piedras. We are currently building awareness of the organization, developing relationships with potential supporters, and exploring abandoned or underused properties that could be rehabilitated into a space for artists to live, work, study, teach, and build community. Our greatest challenge is that we have a compelling story and an important community project, but we do not yet have the media relationships or professional PR experience needed to get the story in front of the right journalists, editors, television producers, podcast hosts, and arts/culture outlets. Our founder, Charlie W. Burns, is an artist, curator, and longtime New York City resident who moved to Puerto Rico in March 2026. After becoming homeless and spending four months in three different shelters, she began building Dimora Arts Foundation using her phone and the resources available to her. On September 11, 2026, the organization received IRS recognition as a 501(c)(3) public charity. That same day, after four months of homelessness, she moved into her own apartment. We are now looking for a PR/media professional who can help us turn this unusual founding story and our vision for an artists' residency into meaningful media opportunities. We have not previously had a dedicated PR professional working on the organization. This volunteer would help develop a media strategy, identify appropriate journalists and producers, craft targeted pitches, pursue interviews and features, and help us build ongoing media relationships.
The primary goal is to secure two booked media interviews that highlight Dimora Arts Foundation and our founder’s story. National English-language outlets are preferred, but if national placement is not attainable, two booked interviews with appropriate Puerto Rico media outlets are acceptable. The volunteer will identify appropriate journalists, television producers, podcast hosts, and other media contacts; develop and tailor pitches; conduct media outreach; follow up with interested contacts; and arrange the interviews remotely.By the end of the project, we would ideally have:• Two confirmed media interviews• A targeted list of relevant media contacts and outlets• A basic media outreach strategy and reusable pitch materialsSuccess means establishing meaningful media exposure for Dimora Arts Foundation while beginning relationships with journalists and producers that can continue beyond this project.
