International Ally Federation (IAF) currently relies on our Treasurer, supported by an accounting consultant, to manage day-to-day bookkeeping using Wave. As we grow, our transaction volume (approximately 20–30 per month) and reporting needs have outpaced what our Treasurer can consistently manage alone, without dedicated hands-on accounting support. Our Treasurer and Board are working to establish a clear boundary between two functions: the actual day-to-day accounting work (entries, reconciliations, and reporting), and a higher-level review of that work through a pro bono financial officer who can look at our financial activities from an oversight lens. This project addresses the first piece: the hands-on work itself. Without it, our Treasurer remains stretched thin trying to do both the transactional work and provide strategic oversight, which makes it hard to keep our books current and our reporting reliable.
By the end of this project, in 12 weeks, we want our books to be accurately reconciled and up to date monthly, and our leadership team to have clear, ongoing visibility into our financial position through regular reports and charts.Specifically, the volunteer will create:1. Completed bookkeeping entries and bank/account reconciliations for the engagement period2. Budget variance reports comparing actuals to our annual operating budget, with visual charts summarizing financial trends and flags for any discrepancies3. Recommendations to help our Treasurer sustain a predictable, repeatable accounting process going forwardSuccess looks like accurate, current books; a clear reporting rhythm our Treasurer and and other officers can rely on for oversight and decision-making; and a stronger, well-defined division of labor between hands-on accounting and financial oversight, complementing the strategic and fiscal policy work already underway with our Policy Analyst volunteers.
