We do not have a documented, repeatable process for capturing and sharing personal stories from the orphan girls and their foster families in our Malawi program. Our request is to create a clear workflow plus training content and internal marketing materials so staff and volunteers have a consistent way to collect and use stories that reflect our work.
We are looking for a volunteer with Technical Writing and Communications expertise to design a practical story capture system for our team. The volunteer will:- Create a documented story capture process: a step-by-step workflow that explains when and how stories should be collected, how they should be recorded and stored, and who on our team is responsible for each step.- Develop training content: a facilitator guide and trainee-facing materials (slide deck and handouts or scripts) to train staff and volunteers to use the process, including sample prompts and a short practice exercise.- Produce internal marketing materials: a concise one-page summary and an internal email/slide template that promote adoption and explain the purpose and benefits of consistent story capture to our staff and partners.

Whom We Serve: Orphan girls in rural Malawi that have lost both of their parents to HIV. These vulnerable children have faced extensive trauma from the loss of their parents, food insecurity, neglect, and abuse. They exhibit behaviors such as anger, aggression, depression, lack of focus, withdrawal, and nightmares. The child’s guardian is very poor and cannot feed, clothe or send the child to school. The child’s prospects include marriage at 12 years old and many children. The cycle of poverty continues. Vision: Raise a generation of orphan girls to become educated Christian women to be professionals, pastors, evangelists, politicians, entrepreneurs, and educators that influence substantive positive change in their own country. Mission: Orphan Shade is NOT an institutional orphanage. It is a family. The children grow up in their own village, are near their extended family, attend the local school, participate in the local church, and experience the love and care of committed parents. The focus is to prepare the child’s body, mind, and spirit for the future. We plan to scale this model to create many new families in rural villages across the southern region of Malawi. Partner: We work in partnership with a network of rural village churches in southern Malawi. Our co-founder, Pastor Prince Kampomo, and his team provide oversight, leads establishment of new families, and provide ongoing support for existing families. Impact: Three active foster families of two adults and eight children live and thrive as a ministry of the local church in 3 different rural villages. Additionally, we have seen significant progress: 1. Positive mental health indicators and behavior improvement reflect significant improvement 2. 8 of 23 girls are ranked #1 in their respective schools and classes 3. First child will take the national exam to determine eligibility for secondary school (High School)
