About the Opportunity

Birdhouse Fly Away is a growing Sacramento nonprofit transitioning from a executive volunteer-led organization toward a more sustainable operating model with diversified funding and eventually, paid staff.

To date, much of our revenue has come through fee-for-service workforce projects. We are now looking to expand into government and foundation grants, corporate funding, sponsorships, donations, and other revenue sources to support our program infrastructure and growth.

Our leadership has experience managing program deliverables and outcomes but limited experience developing grant budgets and building the financial systems needed to support institutional funding.

During this session, I would like guidance on:

-What expenses funders typically expect to see and how to properly allocate shared costs
-How to account for staffing as we transition from volunteer leadership to paid employees
-What financial records, account categories, and tracking systems we should have in place before pursuing larger grants

My goal is to leave the session with a clearer understanding of what being grant ready means and what financial infrastructure should look like for us and a prioritized list of next steps we can begin implementing immediately.
