Bookkeeping, Payroll, and Accounting Services Overview

We are a small nonprofit organization using QuickBooks Online to manage our finances. Currently, we pay our team as independent contractors, but we are looking to transition to a payroll system. We'd like guidance on selecting a time-tracking system that work for both employees and contractors, understanding the cost implications of moving to payroll, and exploring potential employee benefits. We also would like to better understand the roles of a bookkeeper and accountant, and what additional services we might need. For example, if we use a payroll service like Gusto, what tasks will still fall to our organization, and who should be responsible for them?
