In order to help as many students and college personnel as possible, we have been trying to expand and deepen our presence at colleges/universities by recruiting more faculty/staff into our teacher certification program (we recently started marketing via LinkedIn and Facebook) and establishing institutional contracts that would allow an institution to train as many faculty/staff as they would like. We are also interested in learning about other ways of increasing our presence. We would like help in understanding what other options and opportunities we could pursue, such as licensing our curriculum and/or forming partnerships with organizations in the mental health field that already have strong, respected, established relationships with colleges/universities. We would like to get an understanding of the details associated with those options, such as the requirements, risks, rewards, etc., since we have no experience in these areas, in order to make a well-informed decision on how best to move forward.

We train individuals at colleges and universities how to teach mindfulness to the young adults they serve, using our evidence-based curriculum. Here's a brief video overview of who we are and what we do: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jFQeFwEehj8 College is an especially stressful and challenging period in the lives of young adults. As students, faculty, and clinicians know, coping with emotional turmoil and the constant external pressures of college life can have significant negative impacts on mental and physical health as well as performance. The Mindfulness Institute for Emerging Adults (formerly known as the Center for Koru Mindfulness) created an evidence-based curriculum specifically designed to help college students and other young adults deal with these issues and produce positive changes in their lives. The curriculum was created in the early 2000s by two Duke University psychiatrists: Holly Rogers and Margaret Maytan. Realizing that our approach had the potential to reach well beyond the boundaries of Duke University and help college students across the country, Holly Rogers and her colleague Libby Webb founded the Mindfulness Institute for Emerging Adults in 2013 There are an impressive amount of student testimonials indicating how our curriculum has changed their lives for the better. That evidence is also supported by empirical research. In its March 2015 issue, the Journal of American College Health published “A Randomized Controlled Trial of Koru: A Mindfulness Program for College Students and Other Emerging Adults” and the study strongly supports the effectiveness of our program in the university setting, with measurable benefits in the areas of sleep, perceived stress, mindfulness, and self-compassion.
