About the Opportunity

The UAS Wildland Fire Collaborative is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit based in the US. During fire season, drone pilots mapping active wildfires send us their raw data, and we turn it into one standardized map product on one shared viewer, free to the teams fighting the fire. Hotspots and perimeters come out the same, with the same symbology, instead of a different map from every pilot. In the off season, we map fire risk before fires start, using drone LiDAR and aerial imagery to assess fuels so communities can act early.

This is running, not theoretical. The pipeline has been deployed since 2024, and Oregon Department of Forestry pilots mapped through it in the 2026 season. The goal from here is every state and the federal agencies delivering the same standardized data.

We are looking for a volunteer grant writer to take one real application across the finish line with us: help us pick an open grant that fits, write the proposal from material we provide, and get it submitted. This is an unpaid volunteer role. If it goes well, there are more applications waiting.

One grant application taken across the finish line: pick an open grant that fits our fire mapping and fire risk mapping work, write the proposal from material we provide, and get the application submitted before its deadline. Please include your grant writing experience (proposals written, any funded), a sample you are allowed to share, and your availability over the next couple of months.
