About the Opportunity

Steel Sensation Steel Orchestra Corporation is preparing to transition into a new host facility to support our expanding youth music education programs and community performances in the NYC area. To ensure a smooth transition and long-term sustainability, we need a strategic fundraising roadmap to identify and pursue funding opportunities for operational transition costs, instrument transportation, and program expansion.

We are seeking a pro bono consultant with proven experience in nonprofit fundraising, grant prospect research, donor copywriting, and corporate sponsorship packaging to help our board build a multi-channel campaign strategy.

The pro bono consultant will create a comprehensive fundraising roadmap to support our facility transition. Deliverables will include:

1. Grant Opportunity Roadmap: A target list of local, cultural, and youth-focused grant opportunities aligned with our mission.

2. Corporate Sponsorship Framework: Defined sponsorship levels and partner benefits for local business supporters.

3. Community Fundraising Strategy: Actionable campaign concepts for individual giving and community support.

4. Master Solicitation Template: A master appeal letter adaptable for grants, corporate sponsors, and major donors.

5. Final Handoff Session: A review call and editable documentation to guide our board on executing the fundraising strategy.

Organization Mission

Steel Sensation Steel Orchestra Corporation is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization based in Queens, New York, dedicated to transforming the lives of youth and enriching communities through the vibrant art of steelpan music. Founded by Trinidadian-born drummer Ian Japsi and his family, our mission is to inspire creativity, confidence, and leadership in young people—especially those from underserved backgrounds—while fostering unity and cultural pride. Rooted in the rich heritage of Trinidad and Tobago and the wider Caribbean, we provide structured steelpan classes, hands-on workshops, mentorship, and performance opportunities like the New York Panorama. By creating safe, engaging musical outlets, we help youth develop discipline, teamwork, and artistic excellence, supporting their personal growth, resilience, and leadership within the community.
