Global Empowerment Network, Inc. (GEN) is a growing 501(c)(3) nonprofit whose programs and partnerships have expanded substantially since the organization’s work began in 2021. GEN currently has a small leadership and Board structure, while its work now spans education, legal-resource access, charitable initiatives, community partnerships, and organizational development.
GEN is separately developing a governance framework to clarify Board roles, leadership responsibilities, decision-making, oversight, and accountability. Building on that work, our next need is to strengthen the composition of the Board itself.
We are seeking an experienced nonprofit Board development professional to help us determine what skills, professional backgrounds, networks, and perspectives are most important for GEN’s next stage; develop a disciplined process for identifying and evaluating prospective Board members; and create an onboarding structure that helps new members become active contributors rather than Board members in name only.
We want a practical system appropriate for a growing nonprofit—not simply general advice about finding Board members.
GEN can provide information about our current Board, leadership structure, programs, partnerships, and organizational priorities. Learn more at www.globalempowermentnetwork.org
By the end of the project, GEN would like a practical Board recruitment and onboarding system that can be used for upcoming Board expansion.
The consultant will help create:
1. A Board skills and composition matrix identifying GEN’s current strengths and priority gaps.
2. A recommended candidate profile for the types of Board members GEN should recruit next.
3. A structured recruitment process covering candidate sourcing, initial outreach, screening, interviews, evaluation, and selection.
4. A simple Board candidate evaluation tool or scorecard.
5. An onboarding checklist and orientation framework for newly appointed Board members.
6. Recommended materials and early-engagement steps to help new members understand GEN’s mission, programs, governance responsibilities, and expectations.
Success would mean GEN has a repeatable process for recruiting qualified, engaged, and mission-aligned Board members and helping them become effective contributors from the beginning.
