About the Opportunity

Junie’s Place is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit supporting individuals and families experiencing pregnancy, infant, and child death. We reduce barriers to compassionate, grief-informed support through direct family assistance, education and resources, and training for clinicians and other professionals.

As Junie’s Place has grown, we have developed meaningful programs and resources, including assistance accessing and affording mental health care. However, family inquiries and referrals have remained less consistent than we would like. Our challenge is ensuring that families who could benefit from these services know they exist and are connected to them.

We have developed outreach materials and identified potential referral sources, including hospitals, OB/GYN and pediatric practices, mental health providers, funeral homes, and other family-serving organizations. However, we have not yet implemented a coordinated outreach effort and want to ensure our approach is thoughtful, effective, and sustainable before doing so.

We are seeking a professional with experience in nonprofit marketing, healthcare communications, or community engagement to help us develop a targeted outreach and referral strategy. We would value expertise in evaluating our existing materials, determining how best to engage referral partners, and identifying ways to encourage families to access support.

Given our limited capacity, we hope to initially focus on two or three high-priority referral audiences. We welcome the consultant’s expertise in determining which audiences to prioritize and how best to reach them.

We have volunteers available to assist with implementation but need professional guidance to ensure their efforts are focused and effective. This project can be completed virtually, with an initial emphasis on Massachusetts.

By the end of the 12-week engagement, the consultant will deliver a practical outreach and referral strategy that Junie’s Place can implement using its existing volunteers and resources.

1. Outreach Materials and Messaging Assessment

Review existing outreach materials and messaging for clarity, accessibility, and appropriateness for grieving families and referring professionals. Identify opportunities to improve how we communicate our services and pathways to support.

2. Targeted Referral Outreach Strategy

Recommend two or three priority referral audiences based on their potential to connect families with Junie’s Place. Develop an approach to engaging these audiences, including initiating contact, introducing services, distributing materials, building relationships, and maintaining communication.

3. Outreach Messaging and Communication Tools

Recommend refinements to existing materials and develop a small set of reusable communication tools, such as introductory emails, follow-up messaging, and talking points tailored to priority audiences.

4. Volunteer Outreach Pilot Plan

Develop a manageable pilot plan for volunteers to implement with a small group of prospective referral partners, including outreach methods, follow-up procedures, and simple measures for evaluating engagement and referrals.

The final strategy should include prioritized next steps for the following 6–12 months, considering our limited organizational capacity.

We anticipate a 12-week virtual engagement at approximately 2–5 hours per week and welcome the consultant’s expertise in determining the appropriate sequencing of activities.

Desired Outcome: A clear, actionable strategy, effective outreach materials, and a manageable plan for building consistent referral pathways so more grieving families can access support.

Organization Mission

Junie's Place is a compassionate nonprofit organization dedicated to providing comprehensive, no-cost grief support services to families enduring the profound loss of a child, infant, pregnancy, or experiencing a stillbirth. Our mission is to create a nurturing and supportive environment in which grieving families can find solace, support, and the embrace of a community that intimately understands their sorrow. We strive to offer a safe place for families navigating the overwhelming depths of grief, providing no-cost counseling, support, educational resources, and programs tailored to their unique needs. Our commitment is to walk alongside these families through every agonizing step of their journey, offering unwavering empathy, guidance, and hope as they learn to honor their child's memory while gradually rebuilding their lives. Beyond direct support, we are committed to advancing grief-informed healthcare, education, and advocacy. We train professionals and organizations to better recognize and respond to the needs of grieving families, promote grief-informed policies such as bereavement leave, and work to shift cultural attitudes around loss. At Junie's Place, we believe that no family should grieve alone. Through care, education, and advocacy, Junie’s Place honors the memory of every child gone too soon and helps transform personal and collective grief into lasting legacies of love. Junie’s Place was founded following the sudden loss of my daughter, Junie. As a clinical psychologist, I realized that even with my professional background, the resources available were often without access to true, trauma-informed grief support. We exist to bridge that gap.
