About the Opportunity

Our email inbox contains a backlog of service requests from learners and offers from volunteers who want to tutor. We do not have a documented, repeatable intake and screening workflow for handling those messages, assessing volunteer suitability, or delivering consistent basic training, which limits our ability to respond to requests and match tutors to learners.

The volunteer will create a documented, implementable screening and training process for volunteer tutors that our team can use remotely. The output should include a clear intake and triage workflow for incoming emails, screening criteria and a screening checklist for tutor applicants, and a basic training outline or curriculum for onboarding new tutors. We are looking for a volunteer with Volunteer Management and Training and Development expertise to design these materials so our team can begin screening, onboarding, and training tutors to meet current demand.

Organization Mission

Read Now was initiated in 2018. It developed out of a history that David Polacheck had with a succession of other non profit entities. As all of the previous efforts had limitations to the literacy effort that David had dreamed of. His daughter, Angeliska encouraged him to start Read Now to realize his vision of offering free, effective help for adults with reading problems. David’s methodology became so effective during his previous literacy work, that Read Now made it feasible to offer it much more widely. Our long term goal is to make a real difference in the community as far as eliminating reading problems and promoting textual literacy.
