About the Opportunity

African Diaspora United, Inc., doing business as African Diaspora United for Development (ADUD), is relaunching The Voice of the African Diaspora® (VOAD), its media and strategic-communications platform.

A separate ADUD project is establishing the VOAD editorial-operations system—calendar structure, workflow, tracker, templates, contributor map, review controls and archive. This follow-up project will work alongside that consultant to apply the system’s working components to a defined first-edition plan and one limited pilot digital digest.

ADUD has legacy publication materials, an established editorial vision and potential stories and contributors, but the relaunch still needs a coherent edition concept: priority audiences, theme, sections, story mix, assignments, content requirements, production sequence and approval plan. Without this bridge from system to practice, the operations toolkit cannot be tested and ADUD cannot determine what is ready for publication.

We are seeking an experienced editorial strategist, content strategist, nonprofit publisher or digital-media producer to lead this bounded planning-and-pilot project. The consultant will coordinate with the separately recruited operations-system consultant, use shared ADUD-approved tools and identify practical improvements after the pilot. The projects may proceed in parallel, and this project does not require the other consultant’s final completion before work begins.

This is not the continuing Managing Editor position, indefinite contributor management, a website project or a social-media assignment. Final editorial and institutional authority remains with ADUD.

By the end of this project, the consultant will deliver an approved first-edition content plan and one limited VOAD pilot digital digest or interim content package prepared through the emerging editorial-operations system.

Specific deliverables will include:

• An edition brief defining purpose, priority audiences, theme, voice, sections, content types and proposed publication format.
• A first-edition table of contents or story slate with proposed titles, purposes, owners, sources, status, deadlines and approval needs.
• An edition-specific production schedule aligned with the shared VOAD workflow, tracker and archive conventions.
• A limited pilot package of up to six approved content items—using available materials and/or a defined number of volunteer contributors—edited and assembled for ADUD review.
• Fact-checking, sourcing, attribution, permissions, image-use and conflict-of-interest checks appropriate to the pilot.
• A draft digital digest or interim package in an agreed, accessible format; public release occurs only after ADUD approval.
• A short pilot-retrospective report identifying what worked, what blocked production and what revisions the operations system should receive.
• A handoff package containing final files, decisions, unresolved items and recommendations for the continuing Managing Editor.

Success means ADUD has an approved first-edition plan, a usable pilot package, a tested collaboration between the content and operations workstreams, and clear improvements for future production.

The project excludes indefinite contributor management, ongoing Managing Editor service, final editorial authority, legal review, publication-design system development, website development, social-media management and recurring publication production. Those responsibilities remain separate or may be considered in later engagements.

Organization Mission

ADUD is a non-partisan, non-profit organization created to ultimately empower African diaspora communities worldwide, by engaging and partnering with individuals, businesses, agencies, and institutions in a collaborative effort to heavily contribute to the educational and social development of Africa and to build a stronger community. The vision of ADUD is to improve the partnership opportunities for our African diaspora communities, so that together we can stand strong to address the social and educational issues and lacks in Africa. ADUD staff and trained volunteers will educate, connect people to resources and encourage community collaboration addressing subtopics including but not limited to health, youth, families, welfare and community development. Our programs are developed in direct response to community need. In a global view, ADUD understands that for all of the reasons, whether it be for the pursuit of increased economic and civil stability, for increased health well-being, or if it is to embark on a new job or join a loved one, the African Diaspora target community in this 21st Century, consists of people of African origin living outside their country of origin, irrespective of their current citizenship and nationality, who are willing to contribute to the development of Africa, starting with their local community. Through our principal pillars Help, Educate, Lead, and Promote Philanthropy (H.E.L.P.), we assist our local diaspora communities by connecting people to resources here and abroad by offering specialized educational programs and projects, by offering various workshops on awareness of community needs and integration, healthy living, etc. and other educational trainings, coordinating social and professional networking events, and providing organized opportunities to give back to our local communities and our countries.
