About the Opportunity

TechElevate is hosting an online hackathon on September 19th where student teams will build a "multitool" app combining several everyday utilities (e.g., calculator, clock, compass) into one cohesive product. We have strong technical mentorship in place, but we lack an experienced app developer to serve as a competition judge with a design-and-usability lens.

Without an outside expert's eye, our scoring risks over-indexing on whether features simply work rather than whether the app is genuinely well-designed, intuitive, and practical for a real user. We haven't used an external judge for this specific competition before, so we need someone who can bring professional standards for UI/UX evaluation into a live, time-boxed judging session.

The consultant will serve as a judge for our September 19th hackathon (10:00 AM–12:45 PM via Zoom), with judging concentrated in the final 30 minutes (12:15–12:45 PM); the consultant is welcome to stay and observe earlier portions if interested. You will review each team's multitool app and score it against criteria including UI quality, design coherence, practicality, and ease of use, then provide brief verbal or written feedback to help determine competition winners.

Success looks like fair, expert-informed scores and constructive feedback that helps students understand what strong app design looks like in practice.
