About the Opportunity

Our organization works in international health and has pursued a range of fundraising approaches over the years, including government and institutional funding, foundations, partnerships and individual giving. While we have had successes, the international health and development funding landscape has changed significantly. Traditional funding sources have become increasingly constrained and competitive, making it essential that we focus our limited resources where they have the greatest potential for success.

We need help stepping back and critically assessing our fundraising history—what has worked, what has not, where we have been most competitive, and which approaches have required significant effort with limited return. We then want to use those findings to determine where we should focus going forward.

Our reduced staffing makes this particularly important. We no longer have the capacity to pursue a broad range of opportunities and need an objective, experienced perspective to help us make strategic choices about which donor types, funding approaches and partnerships offer the strongest potential and where we should stop investing scarce staff time.

By the end of the project, we would like a focused fundraising strategy that helps us make informed choices about where to invest our limited staff time and resources in today's international health funding environment.

The consultant will review our historical fundraising efforts, results and approaches to identify patterns, strengths, challenges and lessons learned. Building on this assessment, we would like help identifying and prioritizing the donor segments, funding approaches and strategic partnerships where our organization has the strongest potential for success.

Key deliverables would include a concise assessment of our fundraising history and lessons learned; recommendations about which fundraising approaches to prioritize, reduce or discontinue; identification of priority donor and funding categories; and a focused fundraising strategy with clear priorities and recommended next steps.

Success would mean that we have a much clearer understanding of where our organization is most competitive, which opportunities warrant our limited resources, and a realistic strategic framework our team can use to guide fundraising decisions and activities over the next 12–18 months.

Organization Mission

We are on a MISSION to deploy clinical expertise and digital solutions to medically-underserved parts of the world. We form strategic partnerships between health workers, implement digital health tools in local settings, and achieve better health care for people in the developing world. We know by now there simply aren’t enough health workers in the world. Today, 83 countries do not meet the basic threshold of having 23 health workers per 10,000 people. By 2030, there will be 15 million fewer health workers than needed. We have a decade of experience bringing physicians to communities with fewer than 1 health worker per 10,000 people using digital tools like telemedicine. We are going to bring our experts to the frontline of global health challenges in the next decade as well. We believe that we can create health equity with an evidence-based approach, world-renowned medical expertise, and local leadership.
