About the Opportunity

One in four pregnancies end in loss. One in six are living with infertility. Millions are going through these traumas but yet this remains one of the most under-discussed health crises in America.

Over one million families annually experience miscarriage, stillbirth, or infant loss. Most suffer in devastating isolation, not knowing free support exists, not knowing they're not alone. Chasing the Rainbows provides completely free comprehensive mental health support including therapy, support groups, peer mentorship, a 24/7 online community, funeral assistance, and more. Yet we're unknown to the families who need us most.

The Gap:
We have exceptional programs and real solutions for grieving families. But we lack strategic public relations support to tell our story to major media outlets and reach grieving families through networks like CNN and NPR.

Specific Challenges:
No professional media relations strategy
No media kit or press materials ready for journalist outreach

Why It Matters:
Without PR support, we reach families one at a time through word of mouth. With strategic media relations, we could reach millions. A single feature on a major network could connect thousands of grieving families to our free support. That's not just awareness, that's lives transformed.

The Vision:
When a family experiences loss and searches for infertility, pregnancy and infant loss support, we want them to find Chasing the Rainbows. When journalists cover this health crisis, we want to be the expert resource they call. We've built an extraordinary nonprofit with real impact. Now we need PR expertise to help the world know we exist.

By the end of this project, we need a professional messaging framework that our team can use consistently in all media interactions.

Deliverable 1: Key Messages by Media Type
Core key messages tailored for different audiences: journalists covering news, podcast hosts focusing on storytelling, healthcare providers with clinical interests, and families seeking support. Each message should be 1-2 sentences, compelling, and crafted for how that audience cares about our mission.

Deliverable 2: Interview Talking Points
Comprehensive talking points for staff appearing on podcasts or media interviews covering: who we are, what we do, why it matters, statistics and impact, how families can access support, how people can help, and how to transition answers back to key messages. Include 5-7 core talking points with supporting details.

Deliverable 3: Media Q&A Document
Anticipated questions journalists and podcast hosts will ask with professional answers prepared. Cover: Why pregnancy loss matters, why our nonprofit exists, how we're different, who we serve, how we stay free, success stories (anonymized), statistics, and calls-to-action.

Deliverable 4: Language Guide for Sensitive Coverage
Professional guidance on respectful language for discussing pregnancy loss, miscarriage, stillbirth, infant loss, infertility, and grief. Include: preferred terminology, language to avoid, how to discuss trauma respectfully, how to quote families authentically, and sample language for different scenarios.

SUCCESS LOOKS LIKE:
Your team has clear, consistent messaging for every media interaction. Staff feel confident doing interviews. Every team member tells your story the same way. You're ready to build journalist pitches and press releases on top of this foundation.

That's 21,000 stillbirths and 24,000 infant losses annually in the United States alone, affecting over 1 million families each year. Yet pregnancy loss and infant loss remain some of the most under-discussed, under-resourced, under-supported health crises in America. The Isolation: Most grieving families are completely alone. They don't know where to turn. They can't afford therapy. They don't know other families who've experienced what they have. The grief is compounded by isolation, stigma, and the crushing weight of believing they're the only ones. The Cost: For families already devastated by loss, adding the financial burden of therapy, counseling, funeral costs, and support services is impossible. Mental health care is expensive. Funerals are expensive. Community is expensive. And so families grieve silently, without help, and often without hope. The Gap: There is no other nonprofit providing the breadth and depth of free, comprehensive support that pregnancy and infant loss families need. We fill that gap completely—removing every barrier to healing. No family should grieve alone. No family should pay to heal. And no million families experiencing pregnancy loss should have to search desperately for help that should be visible, accessible, and free. With your pro bono PR support, we can make sure every family that experiences pregnancy loss or infant loss knows Chasing the Rainbows exists and knows they're not alone. Together, we transform grief into healing. Together, we give hope back to families who've lost everything.
