About the Opportunity

Young Adults with Epilepsy (YAWE) has grown rapidly since its founding in 2023. Our website has expanded organically alongside our programs, which now include peer-support groups, workshops, one-to-one support, educational resources, a podcast, blogs, Discord community, Spanish-language resources, and opportunities for supporters to get involved.

As content and audiences have grown, the site has become harder to navigate. Young adults with epilepsy, families, healthcare providers, supporters, and potential partners enter with different needs, but the pathways to relevant information and next steps are not always clear. Important programs and resources can be difficult to discover, calls to action are inconsistent, and the mobile experience needs improvement.

We have already reviewed website analytics and developed an initial 90-day SEO plan. Organic search is an important and growing source of traffic, so we do not want to redesign the site in a way that removes valuable content or disrupts pages already performing well. Instead, we need expert guidance on organizing and connecting our existing content more effectively.

YAWE is seeking a consultant with website strategy, user experience, and information architecture expertise to assess a focused portion of our Wix website: the homepage, a proposed “Start Here” pathway, and one priority program or resource hub. This first phase will provide a practical foundation for future improvements while remaining achievable within Taproot’s 12-week project structure.

By the end of the project, YAWE will receive a focused website user-experience strategy and implementation roadmap covering the homepage, a proposed “Start Here” pathway, and one priority program or resource hub.

The consultant will:
• Assess the selected pages for navigation, content organization, accessibility, mobile usability, and clarity of calls to action.
• Recommend improvements to the homepage structure and hierarchy without requiring a complete redesign.
• Define a clear “Start Here” journey that helps young adults with epilepsy, families, healthcare providers, supporters, and partners quickly find the most relevant information.
• Recommend how one priority content hub should be organized and connected to related programs and resources.
• Provide guidance on internal links, calls to action, page naming, and mobile presentation.
• Conduct a limited review of comparable nonprofit websites for applicable ideas and best practices.
• Deliver a prioritized Wix roadmap identifying immediate improvements, near-term updates, and items for a future implementation phase.
• Recommend the scope and skills needed for that follow-on implementation project.

The project will conclude with a written strategy and handoff meeting with the YAWE team. Success will mean that YAWE has clear, practical recommendations it can implement in Wix, stronger pathways for its primary audiences, and a phased plan that improves usability while protecting valuable content and existing search performance.
