About the Opportunity

23&1 Magazine is seeking a skilled volunteer to help us identify and organize potential partnerships, collaborations, sponsorship opportunities, and other organizations that align with our mission.

The volunteer will research organizations, businesses, nonprofits, foundations, media organizations, educational institutions, and other potential collaborators that may have an interest in supporting or partnering with 23&1 Magazine.

At the completion of the project, we hope to have:

A prioritized list of potential partners, collaborators, and sponsors
Relevant contact information for outreach when publicly available
Recommendations for which organizations or opportunities should be approached first
Suggested messaging and outreach strategies for different types of organizations
Reusable email templates for partnership, collaboration, sponsorship, and organizational outreach
Recommendations for maintaining and expanding our outreach efforts after the project is completed

The goal is to provide our team with an organized, practical outreach system that we can begin using immediately and continue building upon.

Strategic partnerships and collaborations can significantly expand the reach and impact of these stories. Building relationships with nonprofits, community organizations, educational institutions, media organizations, businesses, and other mission-aligned groups can help introduce the magazine to new audiences, create opportunities for collaboration, strengthen distribution, and increase awareness of the people and issues represented in our publication.

Developing relationships with potential sponsors can also help support the long-term sustainability and growth of 23&1 Magazine, allowing us to continue producing and distributing meaningful content while expanding the platform available to incarcerated and formerly incarcerated voices.

This project will give our team a structured foundation for building those relationships and creating lasting support for 23&1 Magazine's mission.

23&1 Magazine has a clearly defined mission, established nonprofit status, published magazine issues, organizational and brand materials, an active website and social media presence, and examples of previous outreach efforts that can help the volunteer understand our work and identify organizations that may be a strong fit.

We can provide the volunteer with our organizational background, mission and goals, magazine issues and articles, existing outreach materials, brand information, and examples of organizations and individuals we have previously contacted or worked with.

Our Operations Manager will serve as the primary point of contact throughout the project and will be available to answer questions, provide feedback, review potential outreach targets, and provide additional organizational information as needed.

We are also interested in the volunteer's professional recommendations regarding how a growing nonprofit publication can develop meaningful partnerships and approach potential sponsors effectively.

Organization Mission

23&1 Magazine is a nonprofit media organization dedicated to amplifying the voices, experiences, talents, and accomplishments of incarcerated and formerly incarcerated individuals. Our mission is to challenge the stigma surrounding incarceration by sharing authentic stories of personal growth, rehabilitation, creativity, resilience, and success. Through journalism, personal narratives, poetry, artwork, interviews, and educational content, we provide a platform for voices that are too often overlooked or unheard. 23&1 Magazine also seeks to bring awareness to important issues within the criminal justice system, including wrongful convictions, the effects of solitary confinement, barriers to successful reentry, and the need for meaningful rehabilitation and reform. We believe that incarceration should not define the entirety of a person’s life or determine the value of their voice. By connecting incarcerated individuals with communities beyond prison walls, we strive to encourage understanding, reduce stigma, support successful reentry, and contribute to reducing recidivism. Our purpose is simple: to give people a voice, recognize their humanity, and show that a person’s story is greater than their incarceration.
