Revenue Diversification and Financial Sustainability Plan

Moonshot Museum is seeking a skilled volunteer with experience in nonprofit finance, revenue strategy, or business planning to help strengthen and diversify our revenue model.

The volunteer will:

1. Review our current revenue sources and relevant financial information.

2. Evaluate opportunities across admissions, educational programs, museum rentals, sponsorships, grants, memberships, and individual giving.

3. Identify and prioritize three to five realistic opportunities for increasing unrestricted revenue.

4. Recommend next steps based on potential financial impact, required resources, and organizational capacity.

The final deliverable will be a practical revenue diversification assessment and action plan that Moonshot Museum can use to guide its financial planning over the next three years.

A diversified and sustainable revenue strategy will strengthen Moonshot Museum’s ability to serve students, families, educators, and community members for years to come. Increasing unrestricted revenue will help sustain museum operations, support our staff, maintain engaging exhibitions, and expand access to STEAM education and career readiness programs, particularly for young people from communities that have been underrepresented in the space industry.

The volunteer’s expertise will help Moonshot Museum make informed financial decisions and direct resources where they can have the greatest impact. Their work will support our mission to inspire a diverse community to find its place in the future of human space exploration.

Moonshot Museum’s leadership has prioritized revenue diversification as an important next step in strengthening the organization’s long-term financial sustainability. We have existing budgets, financial reports, revenue information, attendance data, program pricing, rental information, and fundraising materials available to support the project. Sensitive financial documents will be shared directly with the selected volunteer.

A designated staff member will serve as the primary point of contact, provide timely access to requested information, coordinate input from our leadership team, and offer feedback throughout the project. The completed assessment and action plan will be used to establish revenue priorities, inform annual budgeting and fundraising decisions, and guide Moonshot Museum’s financial planning over the next three years.
