Black Health Commission Employee Handbook

We are seeking a skilled HR or organizational development volunteer to help us develop a comprehensive Employee Handbook that reflects Black Health Commission's mission, values, culture, and employment practices. The volunteer will review our existing handbook, recommend updates based on nonprofit and HR best practices, and help create a clear, professional, and user-friendly handbook that includes employment policies, workplace expectations, compensation and leave guidelines, performance expectations, technology and confidentiality standards, and other essential policies. The final product will serve as a foundational resource for onboarding new employees, supporting supervisors, and strengthening our internal operations as the organization continues to grow.

A well-defined employee handbook will strengthen Black Health Commission's organizational capacity by establishing clear, consistent expectations for employees and supervisors. By aligning workplace policies with our organizational values, culture, and strategic priorities, the handbook will foster accountability, improve the employee experience, and support effective collaboration. As BHC continues to grow, the handbook will provide the foundation needed to onboard staff consistently, strengthen internal operations, and ensure our team is equipped to deliver high-quality programs, cultivate meaningful partnerships, and advance our mission.

The project will be completed using a phased approach that includes reviewing the existing employee handbook, identifying outdated policies, researching nonprofit and HR best practices, and drafting policies that reflect Black Health Commission's mission, values, and operations. Leadership will review each section to ensure policies align with current organizational practices and future growth. The handbook will be refined through internal feedback, finalized for adoption, and incorporated into the employee onboarding process. To keep the handbook current, it will be reviewed annually and updated as organizational needs evolve.
