Preventive Search and Rescue Initiative is looking for a volunteer web developer to build an interactive volunteer map for our website.

We currently have almost 50 volunteers located throughout the United States and several other countries. We will provide a spreadsheet containing each volunteer's first name, last initial, city, county, state or province, and country.

The map should open with a worldwide view so visitors can immediately see our volunteers represented as red dots around the world. Visitors should be able to zoom in and out, click on a volunteer location to view basic information, and return to the original worldwide view using a reset button. The finished map should be easy to update as new volunteers join our organization.

Project Requirements
The map should:
Display almost 50 volunteer locations.
Open with a worldwide view.
Show each volunteer as a red dot.
Allow users to zoom in and out.
Include a reset button that returns the map to the original view.
Display the volunteer's first name, last initial, city, county, state or province, and country when selected.
Group nearby markers when appropriate.
Work well on desktop and mobile devices.
Be straightforward for another developer to maintain and expand.

We Will Provide
A spreadsheet containing the volunteer information.
Access to our website.
Feedback during development.

Deliverables
A completed interactive volunteer map integrated into our website.
Documentation explaining how to add, edit, and remove volunteers.
A solution that is easy to maintain as our volunteer network grows.
This project will help visitors immediately see the growing reach of Preventive Search and Rescue Initiative. By displaying volunteers across the United States and around the world, the map demonstrates that people from many communities are contributing to our mission.

The map will also recognize our volunteers, encourage additional volunteer participation, and help build credibility with potential partners, donors, and supporters. As our organization grows, the map will continue to showcase the expanding network of people working together to help prevent outdoor emergencies through education and preparedness.
We have identified exactly what we want this project to accomplish and have gathered the information needed to begin. We will provide a spreadsheet containing the locations of our current volunteers, which includes almost 50 people. We have a clear vision for how the finished map should work and how it will be used on our website.

Our team will be available throughout the project to answer questions, review progress, and provide timely feedback. Once completed, the map will be added to our website and maintained as our volunteer network continues to grow. We are looking for a solution that is easy to update so future volunteers can be added without rebuilding the map.

Organization Mission

Mission and Principles The Preventive Search and Rescue Initiative Inc. (PSAR Initiative) exists to stop emergencies before they happen, protect the environment that sustains us, and keep public lands open for everyone. We believe prevention is the most effective form of search and rescue. Our Three Pillars of Prevention Preventing rescues and injuries in the backcountry We meet people where they are: on the trail, at summits, or at trailheads. We share food or electrolytes, help them rethink their timing, or convince them to turn back before dark. A simple conversation can prevent an emergency, and every incident avoided is a life not put at risk. Preventing environmental damage We build conservation into everything we do. Trash left behind attracts wildlife and often leads to animals being relocated or euthanized. Off-trail shortcuts erode fragile ground. Accidents in sensitive areas push regulators to close entire sections of land. Closures hurt local communities and small businesses as well as outdoor users. Picking up trash, staying on trail, and teaching Leave No Trace are all part of prevention. Preventing unpreparedness We help people before they even start. That means teaching seasonal risks, showing what to pack, and making digital resources people can keep on their phones. Many rescues never happen because someone learned what to do before stepping into the woods. Together, these pillars form a prevention triangle. Each side strengthens the others: safe people protect the land, a healthy environment reduces rescues, and preparation reinforces both.
