Help us rebuild buildingbiologyinstitute.org in a local or staging environment using our completed technical audit and information architecture blueprint.

We're looking for a volunteer who can partner with our Executive Director to implement a redesigned website based on our existing plan. The volunteer will restructure the site's information architecture around three educational content areas—Electromagnetic Radiation, Indoor Environmental Quality, and Building Science—as well as four professional certification pathways. They will build clean WordPress page templates for these sections and identify, consolidate, and reorganize duplicate content across our WordPress, WooCommerce, and Moodle/Edwiser Bridge systems where appropriate.

We've already completed a full technical site audit and a detailed information architecture blueprint, so the volunteer will begin with a well-defined roadmap rather than a blank slate.

Expected deliverables include:
-A rebuilt website in a local or staging environment based on the approved information architecture
-WordPress page templates for the three educational content areas and four professional certification pathways
-A reorganized site structure and navigation aligned with the completed blueprint
-Consolidated and reorganized duplicate content where appropriate
-Documentation summarizing the new site structure, completed work, and any remaining recommendations before launch

The Project will conclude with a staging version of the website that is ready for our team to review and prepare for launch.
A clearer, easier-to-navigate site will help prospective students find the right certification path, help the public find trustworthy free education on healthy building topics, and reduce the ongoing maintenance burden on our small, largely volunteer-run team. Building Biology Institute is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit that has certified building biology professionals in 20+ countries; a stronger website directly supports our capacity to grow that reach.
The volunteer will work directly with our Executive Director, who manages all of our technical infrastructure (WordPress on Pair.com hosting, WooCommerce for course sales, Edwiser Bridge, and Moodle for course delivery) and will provide full context, access to a shared local/staging build environment, and existing planning documents at kickoff. All work happens offline, in a local WordPress environment or a password-protected staging site, until we're ready to debut — nothing touches our live site until final review and a coordinated cutover. We're flexible on timeline and happy to structure this as a multi-week project with clear milestones.

Organization Mission

Creating a Global Village Of Awareness. Our mission, now in its 39th year, is to help create healthy homes, schools, and workplaces free of toxic indoor air, tap-water pollutants, and hazards posed by electromagnetic radiation. We fulfill our mission by guiding both the general public and working professionals (architects, builders, engineers, interior design professionals, physicians, nurses, and other health care practitioners, real estate professionals, etc.) to an understanding of the vital and complex interrelationship between the natural and built environments, and teach them the means for merging these complementary environments into greater harmony and planetary health.
