We are seeking strategic guidance to help design and launch a premium paid membership platform. We are preparing to launch Secret Book Society, a paid subscription membership community centered around the CHARMS Book Series, literacy enrichment, life skills development, career exploration, and exclusive educational content.

Secret Book Society is being developed as a recurring earned revenue stream to strengthen long-term sustainability for our nonprofit while delivering meaningful value to members through exclusive resources, content, and experiences.

We are currently in the planning and funding stage and need expert guidance to fully develop the membership model before launch.

Support Requested
We are looking for an experienced strategist with expertise in paid newsletters, subscription memberships, audience engagement, and recurring revenue models to help us think through the following:
Best platform recommendations (including Beehiiv and comparable platforms)
Membership structure and subscriber experience
Exclusive content strategy and delivery model
Pricing strategy and recurring revenue design
Retention and churn reduction strategies
Launch roadmap and implementation planning

Key Questions We Need Help Solving
Is Beehiiv the right platform for a paid membership community?
What should Secret Book Society include to create strong ongoing value?
What content mix will drive retention and long-term engagement?
What pricing model makes sense for our audience?
What membership perks create the strongest subscriber loyalty?
How do we structure onboarding and renewal to reduce churn?
What growth strategies work best for paid subscription communities today?

Desired Outcome
By the end of this Project, we hope to walk away with:
A clear vision for Secret Book Society
Recommended platform and technology stack
Membership structure and pricing recommendations
Revenue strategy and retention ideas
A realistic launch plan for Fall 2026

This Project will help us refine both our fundraising strategy and operational roadmap as we pursue grant funding and sponsorship support to successfully build and launch this new earned revenue initiative.
The Secret Book Society directly supports Athenian’s mission to entertain, inspire, and equip young people with real-world skills through literacy, life skills development, and career exploration.

This project creates a consistent, year-round engagement model that extends Athenian’s impact beyond individual programs, events, books, or workshops. Through the Secret Book Society, students gain ongoing access to meaningful educational experiences that combine reading, skill-building, critical thinking, and career discovery in a format that is engaging, accessible, and fun.

The membership model strengthens mission delivery by creating deeper relationships with families, students, and educators while increasing access to Athenian’s proprietary educational resources. Members will engage with books, discussions, challenges, projects, and career-focused learning opportunities that reinforce communication, leadership, time management, problem-solving, confidence, and resilience.

In addition to expanding impact, the Secret Book Society supports long-term organizational sustainability by creating a recurring revenue stream that helps fund program growth, content development, and broader community outreach. This strengthens Athenian’s capacity to scale its mission and serve more students across Alabama and nationwide.
The Secret Book Society will be intentionally launched with a phased, strategic rollout designed to ensure long-term sustainability, strong member engagement, and measurable impact.

Success begins with building a clear and compelling membership experience centered around high-value, exclusive content that families, students, and educators cannot access elsewhere. The program will launch with a strong foundation of proprietary resources already created by Athenian, including the seven-book Charms Book Series, companion worksheets, discussion guides, career exploration tools, podcast content, and interactive learning activities.

The project will be structured in four key phases: platform development, content creation, pilot launch, and growth optimization. Initial efforts will focus on developing the membership platform, onboarding systems, branded assets, and content delivery structure. This will be followed by creation of a robust content library that includes monthly themed learning experiences, exclusive resources, challenges, and community engagement opportunities.

A pilot group of founding members will help validate the experience, provide feedback, and refine offerings before broader public launch. Success metrics will include membership growth, retention rates, engagement with content, recurring revenue generation, and measurable participation in reading, skill-building, and career exploration activities.

By leveraging existing intellectual property, digital content infrastructure, and established audience channels, the Secret Book Society can launch efficiently while maintaining strong scalability for regional and national growth.
