We would like to partner with a skilled WordPress volunteer to improve the design, organization, and overall effectiveness of our website. Our goal is to create a more engaging and user-friendly experience that better communicates our mission and highlights the work of incarcerated journalists and writers.

Specific areas where we would appreciate assistance include reviewing our current website structure, improving navigation and page layouts, enhancing visual design, optimizing volunteer and donation pathways, and recommending ways to better showcase articles, podcasts, campaigns, and organizational updates. We are also interested in improving mobile responsiveness and ensuring visitors can easily find opportunities to support our work.

Because our team is small, we are looking for guidance and hands-on assistance that will help us build a stronger, more sustainable website that we can continue to maintain and grow after the project concludes.
JoinJeremy exists to empower incarcerated journalists and writers by amplifying their voices and expanding the reach of their work. Our website serves as the primary gateway for volunteers, donors, journalists, advocates, and community members to learn about our mission and engage with our work.

By improving our WordPress website, this project will help us better showcase the stories, articles, podcasts, and accomplishments of incarcerated journalists while making it easier for supporters to get involved. A stronger website will increase volunteer recruitment, strengthen fundraising efforts, improve access to educational resources, and help us reach new audiences interested in criminal justice reform and social justice.
The volunteer's contributions will have a direct impact on our ability to connect incarcerated writers with the outside world, grow our community of supporters, and advance our mission of ensuring that the voices and perspectives of incarcerated journalists are heard.
Our team is fully committed to this project and understands the importance of maintaining a strong digital presence to support our mission. We have an existing WordPress website, established branding, website content, and organizational materials that will be made available to the volunteer. Team members will be available to answer questions, provide feedback, and collaborate throughout the project.

We have identified specific goals for the website, including improving user experience, highlighting the work of incarcerated journalists, strengthening volunteer and donor engagement, and better showcasing our podcasts, articles, and advocacy initiatives. We are seeking a volunteer partner who can help us translate these goals into an effective and sustainable website strategy.

Any recommendations and improvements developed through this project will be implemented by our team and incorporated into our ongoing communications, outreach, fundraising, and volunteer recruitment efforts. We are committed to maintaining and building upon the work completed through this partnership to ensure a lasting impact.

Organization Mission

Through institutional design and legal obstacles, mainstream media outlets are restricted in reporting firsthand on America’s massive carceral state. Vital information and issues from within US prisons and immigration detention centers remain underreported or entirely ignored. Incarcerated writers and journalists regularly risk censorship and retaliation to share their firsthand experiences and perspectives. They are also systematically excluded from the editorial support, exposure, and professional networks available to others in the industry. While outside journalists often see their work featured across multiple outlets and legacy publications, incarcerated writers rarely have their work published beyond its original source. Incarcerated journalist Jeremy Busby founded JoinJeremy in order to transform this dynamic. We are a collective dedicated to supporting the work of incarcerated journalists and amplifying their voices at this critical moment in history, when protecting free speech is more important than ever. We invite you to join us in uplifting incarcerated journalists and writers as essential contributors to today’s media landscape. We are building multimedia platforms and collaborating with media outlets, community organizations, journalists and activists to fulfill our mission.
