Develop a Media Outreach and Public Relations Toolkit
We are looking for a volunteer who can review our current communications efforts and develop a practical, sustainable public relations strategy that our small nonprofit team can implement long after the project is complete.
Specifically, we would like assistance with:
• Evaluating our current media outreach efforts and identifying opportunities for improvement
• Developing a media relations strategy focused on national, regional, and mission-aligned outlets
• Creating a targeted media list of journalists, producers, bloggers, podcasters, and influencers who cover philanthropy, nonprofits, international aid, disability advocacy, healthcare, human interest stories, and Ukraine-related issues
• Developing press release and media pitch templates that can be adapted for future campaigns and success stories
• Identifying compelling story angles that could attract media coverage
• Creating a media outreach calendar tied to key events, awareness days, fundraising campaigns, and our annual gala
• Recommending best practices for building long-term relationships with journalists and media contacts
• Providing guidance on how to measure the success of our public relations efforts
At the conclusion of the project, we hope to have a clear roadmap, practical tools, and reusable resources that will help Maya's Hope generate greater visibility and reach new supporters for years to come.
Every year, Maya's Hope helps children access life-saving surgeries, therapy, mobility equipment, education, and emergency support. We work with children who have disabilities, serious medical conditions, and families facing extreme poverty in Ukraine and the Philippines. Yet like many small nonprofits, we face a constant challenge: reaching new audiences and ensuring these stories are seen by the people who can help.
This project will help us amplify the voices of vulnerable children and families whose stories deserve greater visibility. By developing a stronger media relations and public relations strategy, the volunteer will help Maya's Hope reach new supporters, donors, sponsors, volunteers, and community partners.
Increased visibility can lead directly to increased impact. A single media story can help fund a child's surgery, attract a corporate sponsor, recruit volunteers, or introduce Maya's Hope to a donor who becomes a lifelong supporter. Greater awareness means more resources for children who urgently need help.
The volunteer's expertise will help us tell these stories more effectively and ensure that families facing overwhelming challenges are not overlooked. Their work will create tools and systems that continue generating awareness long after the project is completed.
Ultimately, this project is about more than public relations. It is about helping children access critical care, education, therapy, and opportunities they might not otherwise receive. By helping Maya's Hope expand its reach, the volunteer will play a meaningful role in changing lives and creating brighter futures for children around the world.
Our leadership team and Board of Directors recognize the importance of increasing public awareness and strengthening our communications strategy as we continue to grow. We have full internal support for this project and are prepared to dedicate the time needed to collaborate effectively throughout the engagement.
We can provide the volunteer with a variety of materials, including annual reports, impact reports, fundraising campaigns, social media content, newsletters, press coverage, sponsorship materials, videos, photographs, and stories from the children and families we serve. We can also share information about our current communications efforts, audiences, fundraising initiatives, and upcoming events.
The Executive Director and Founder will serve as the primary point of contact and will be available for regular meetings, feedback, and decision-making. Our team is responsive, collaborative, and eager to learn from the volunteer's expertise.
The deliverables from this project will be implemented directly by our team. We anticipate using the media lists, outreach templates, press release templates, media calendar, and public relations strategy as ongoing tools to support fundraising campaigns, child sponsorship initiatives, emergency appeals, special events, and our annual gala.
Because Maya's Hope is a small organization with a lean staff, creating systems and resources that can be used repeatedly will have a significant long-term impact. The volunteer's work will help us tell more stories, reach new audiences, attract additional supporters, and ultimately generate more resources for children in need.
We are excited to partner with a volunteer who can help us build a strong foundation for future media outreach and public awareness efforts.
