Create a Board Recruitment and Governance Toolkit
Mission Kida is a Chicago-based 501(c)(3) founded in 2024 that provides free professional self-defense training to Jewish teens and young adults in response to rising antisemitism. We're in growth mode and need the right board members to help us scale our model nationally.
The volunteer will work with our team to:
Review our current board composition and identify gaps in skills, networks, and representation.
Develop a Board Matrix that maps the specific expertise we need (legal, fundraising, marketing, community partnerships, etc.).
Create a recruitment strategy to identify and vet strong candidates.
Draft outreach materials and talking points for "the ask."
Outline a basic governance framework including meeting cadence, committee structure, and onboarding approach.
Final deliverable: A practical Board Recruitment and Governance Toolkit our team can implement immediately.
We started in Chicago and our model works — but scaling it nationally requires the right leadership. A strong, strategically recruited board will open doors to major funders, expand our community partnerships, and give us the governance foundation we need to grow responsibly.
The volunteer who helps us build this board recruitment toolkit isn't just filling seats on a committee. They're helping put more young Jewish people into self-defense training at a moment when that training genuinely matters. Every board member we recruit well brings us closer to serving students in more cities, covering more training costs, and reaching kids who right now have no practical option for staying safe.
This is high-impact work with a direct line to the people we serve.
-Assign a dedicated point of contact who will be responsive and available for regular check-ins throughout the project.
-Share background on Mission Kida, our programs, the community we serve, and our current board composition so the volunteer has full context from day one.
-Provide access to any existing governance documents, outreach materials, or recruitment efforts we've already tried.
-Make sure our founder and key decision-makers are aligned, supportive, and available for input when needed.
We're committed to treating this like a real partnership. We'll stick to deadlines, give honest and timely feedback, and come prepared to each meeting. Once the toolkit is complete, we plan to put it into active use immediately — board recruitment is a top priority for us right now, and this work will directly shape who leads Mission Kida into its next phase of growth.
