The Bach Choir of Pittsburgh (BCP) is seeking accounting insight (QBO) regarding how to pay a Core Singer their performance fee MINUS their accumulated Choir Membership Dues in one transaction (i.e., a check) while ensuring that the Core Singer's full performance fee is recorded as income for generation of their 1099. By deducting the Choir Membership Dues, BCP is "granting" the Core Singer a scholarship, but their is no direct cost to the organization for granting that scholarship (it really is a opportunity cost, not an expense).

Clear, correct accounting and 1099 reporting reduces compliance risk and ensures singers are compensated transparently. This financial clarity helps the Bach Choir of Pittsburgh continue presenting unique, moving choral performances by maintaining sustainable, trustworthy administrative practices that support our artistic work.

This is a tiny project, but it has caused problems for many years. The BCP accountants in the past maybe weren't asked this question, and the current very part-time accountant has suggested that we seek outside assistance. In the past three years, BCP has created a new Chart of Accounts, List of Classes and accounting processes to solve a multitude of problems, but this one (and a couple others) remains.
