Financial Analysis

Help us strengthen our financial management practices! We are looking for a volunteer finance professional to assess our current financial situation, pricing strategy, and risk factors.

Based on your assessment of our organization's financial status, this project could also include conducting a financial reforecasting exercise. We'd also benefit from a volunteer's recommendations for creating a ‘rainy day fund,’ best practices for achieving a healthy annual surplus, or creating financial scenarios for periods of increased community need.

We predict that this finance project will take from 36-48 hours to complete. We're hoping that our pro bono partner will share three to five hours of their time each week with our team.

Founded in 1992, our mission at Peninsula Youth Theatre (PYT) is to provide outstanding theatrical learning experiences that develop leadership, emphasize responsibility and foster teamwork in a supportive, respectful environment. We've seen our performers go on to do incredible work in the world. Whether it be performing on Broadway, standing in front of a courtroom to present an argument with poise and confidence, or leading a classroom with creativity and joy, so many of our former participants credit their time at PYT with giving them the confidence to pursue their dreams, both on and off the stage.

PYT has been around for decades, but not unlike many nonprofit arts organizations, the global pandemic hit us hard. We've watched theater after theater in the San Francisco Bay Area close, and though we've pulled through so far, revenue continues to dwindle as our expenses, especially occupancy, grow at an astounding rate. Our financial management systems were put in place decades ago. They don't necessarily reflect current best practices and are not optimized to take advantage of modern tools. We are headed into the next fiscal year with a projected $30K deficit, and that is only if we can more than double our contributed revenue. If we are to weather this storm, we need help.

As a new Managing Director, I bring to the position a background in fundraising and communications, but my understanding of nonprofit finance is limited. I know enough to see that our systems need an overhaul, and that in order to do that in a way that sets us up for the next 30 years, we need to bring someone in to advise us with much more financial acumen. We are hoping to find that help here, at Taproot. We deeply appreciate your time and consideration.

To prepare for this project, we have gathered our budgeting information and will share access to our financial management tools. We plan to implement the recommendations of this project as soon as possible. We are almost midway through our fiscal year, so we would adopt the tools we can upon the project's completion, with hopes for full implementation by 1/1/27 for our next fiscal year.
