A local media and PR system our team can use for every event we run this season across DC, Maryland, and Virginia.

Event Context:
We have seven events scheduled from May through August. We served 30 participants in 2024 and grew to nearly 200 in 2025. In 2026 we are targeting 600 participants. We are the only free family fishing program operating in Prince George's County. This season we are running events in DC and Montgomery County for the first time or returning after a gap. Our events include families fishing together, kids catching fish for the 1st time, STEM programming, a live fish identification tank, a women's fishing cohort called Girls Cast, and a community fish fry where we cook invasive blue catfish pulled from the Patuxent River. On June 20th at Merkle Wildlife Sanctuary, CCA Maryland is doing a live blue catfish fillet demonstration on site. We hold a $22,362 grant from the National Park Foundation. Maryland DNR supports our work in PG County and Montgomery County. The Anacostia Riverfest contracted us as a paid activation this season.

The press kit I want to build with a volunteer includes five pieces:
- 8 to 12 ready-to-pitch story angles for local TV, radio, and community outlets across DC, Maryland, and Virginia
- A media kit reporters can receive and use the same day
- Press release templates for event announcements, partnership news, and program milestones
- A targeted media contact list covering DC, Maryland, and Virginia
- An outreach playbook covering when to send, how to follow up, and how to frame different story types for different outlets

We are seeking a volunteer to support these efforts 2 to 5 hours per week. The project timeline is 4 to 6 weeks. Everything built gets used immediately.
YFL exists to get families on the water together. Not just kids. Whole families.
Forty percent of the families who came to our 2025 events returned to those parks on their own after the event. Parents who fish with their kids at a YFL event go back. They bring their kids again. They go without us. That is the outcome the program is built to produce.

More media coverage means more families in DC, PG County, and Montgomery County find out a free event is happening near them. More families at events means more parents standing at the water's edge with their kids for the 1st time. More of those parents come back on their own.

YFL was founded because our founder's father took him fishing as a child. That is why the program centers the whole family. The literacy corner at every event is named in his father's honor.

A volunteer who builds this kit will see it used at real events this spring and summer. If the work helps bring a TV crew to Merkle Wildlife Sanctuary on June 20th or gets a community paper to run a feature ahead of the July 11th event at Lake Halcyon.
All seven event dates are confirmed. Venue partnerships are secured. Every program element is locked before this request was submitted.

The Blue Catfish Bounty is confirmed. Girls Cast is confirmed. The community fish fry is confirmed. The CCA Maryland fillet demo on June 20th is confirmed. STEM programming runs at every event.

Photos and visuals from 2024 and 2025 events are available and ready to share. Active relationships with Maryland DNR, the National Park Foundation, CCA Maryland, and the Anacostia Riverfest are in place. Those partnerships create joint communications opportunities the volunteer can build angles and contacts around.

I am the direct point of contact for the full project. I will respond to feedback within 24 hours, supply all requested materials quickly, and make decisions without delay. There is full internal buy-in. The deliverables go into use the week they are finished.
