We want to work with a skilled volunteer to turn our updated bylaws into a usable board governance system for Embrace Abilities. We recently added committee structure, participation expectations, and progressive accountability language to our bylaws, but we have not fully implemented those systems yet.

Specifically, we are hoping for help with tasks such as defining clear board member and officer responsibilities within a working board model, outlining committee purpose and scope, creating practical participation expectations, recommending simple accountability and reporting processes, and developing onboarding and training materials for new board members. We would also value guidance on how to roll out these systems in a way that is realistic for a small, grassroots nonprofit.
Embrace Abilities is a parent-led and allied-professional-led nonprofit that creates inclusive programs, support, and connection for children and families with different abilities. A stronger board structure will help us better support that mission by making leadership more sustainable, improving shared responsibility, and reducing burnout among the most active members.

This project will help us build the internal systems needed to sustain and grow our programs, strengthen community partnerships, and serve families more consistently over time. By creating a healthier governance structure now, we will be better equipped to continue offering inclusive, family-centered support to the children, caregivers, and communities we serve.
My team and I have prepared for this project by gaining board agreement that stronger structure and accountability are needed for long-term sustainability. We have already updated our bylaws to reflect our working board model, committee framework, and progressive accountability process. We can provide those bylaws, current board role information, and organizational context to help a volunteer understand where we are now and what needs to be built.

Because this need has already been discussed internally, we are in a strong position to implement the recommendations that come from this project. Our goal is not to create a plan that sits on a shelf. We want to use this work to launch committees, clarify expectations, onboard future board members more effectively, and create a healthier and more sustainable structure for our organization.

Organization Mission

Embrace Abilities is a nonprofit organization dedicated to empowering and supporting neurodiverse children and their families along the Mississippi Gulf Coast. We provide a safe, inclusive, and nurturing environment where children with varying abilities can thrive socially, emotionally, and developmentally. Our mission is to bridge the gap in community resources by offering accessible, family-centered events that promote meaningful connections and the development of social skills in a judgment-free space. Together, we are building a community that embraces abilities, celebrates differences, and creates lifelong bonds, ensuring that no family has to navigate the journey alone.
