As the nonprofit fundraising landscape continues to evolve, it is critical that NEEF continue to diversify and expand its donor base. We have been successful raising restricted funds from corporations, foundations, and federal agencies, but need more general support funds to support our work and advance our mission. NEEF's individual donor base is small, making up approximately 1% of total revenue. In 2025, we had 107 individual donors, including 12 board members. Most non-board donors give less than $1,000 (average gift of $82); the average board gift was $1,350.

We have defined an initial individual donor strategy and draft KPIs that focus on development of donor profiles and donor outreach at the major ($10K+), mid ($1K-10K), and entry levels (<$1K); digital fundraising strategies; strategies to increase DAF giving; and board-led fundraising.

We are seeking volunteer who who will assess NEEF’s current individual giving approach and help us refine our strategy through recommended prospect identification and donor segmentation methods, messaging strategies, and appropriate KPIs. We envision the final product will be an updated version of our draft strategy, with refined or new tools, strategies, and KPIs identified.
Stronger individual giving will increase flexible funding so NEEF can better support programs that make the environment more accessible, relevant, and connected to people’s daily lives. Volunteers will help build a sustainable pipeline of supporters to expand outreach and program impact.
As noted above, NEEF staff have already drafted an initial individual giving strategy with KPIs. We use SalesForce to track donors and stewardship, and have access to Kindsight's iWave to support identification and research on potential donors. NEEF will collaborate with volunteers to share existing fundraising materials and stakeholders, and volunteers will work with staff through regular check-ins to refine and finalize the strategy.
