Develop an Ethical Storytelling Framework
We are a global nonprofit collecting and sharing stories from migrants and refugees. These stories may be published online and shared publicly. While this work is rooted in dignity and narrative ownership, it also requires strong safeguards to ensure the safety, consent, and well-being of those who participate.
This short-term project will focus specifically on building a storytelling-focused safeguarding approach that our team can apply consistently.
We are looking for support to:
• Develop ethical guidelines for collecting and sharing personal stories
• Establish best practices for informed consent, anonymity, and identity protection
• Create clear boundaries for interviewers and storytellers
• Design a simple decision-making framework for assessing risk before publishing
• Provide guidance on trauma-informed and culturally aware interviewing practices
• Identify risks related to digital storytelling and public distribution
Deliverables may include a short safeguarding guide, interviewer checklist, and internal decision framework.
This is not a legal drafting role. We have an attorney who can review final documents. This role is focused on creating a thoughtful, usable system for our team.
This project will help us balance narrative power with protection. Your guidance will ensure that our storytelling practices are grounded in care, responsibility, and respect for the people who trust us with their stories.
• Background on our storytelling approach and goals
• Examples of how stories are collected and used
• Access to team members for context and feedback
We are collaborative, responsive, and ready to implement. We are looking for someone who can translate safeguarding principles into clear, practical tools.
