We are looking for a volunteer who can develop an employee handbook or make updates to our existing materials. We're hoping to find a partner with a background in HR and/or operations to improve transparency and accountability by clarifying our employees’ rights and our policies, benefits, and other expectations for performance and conduct in a new or revised employee handbook. This project will contain the following activities:

-Conducting an audit of our existing policies including reviewing our existing materials and asking any clarifying questions
-Identify policies that we should modify and any new policies or areas that should be addressed and included
-Present a detailed outline of a new handbook
-Finalize the handbook after receiving feedback from our team
Formalizing expedition-specific travel and time-off policies will help BOAT run safe, compliant overnight and multi-state programs, improve onboarding and retention, and enable partners to confidently bring more people outside. Volunteer contributions will directly strengthen program delivery and participant access.
We have compiled existing policy elements and are a small team (~2 full-time plus seasonal). We will share current documents, provide timely feedback, and collaborate with volunteers during discovery to define outstanding details and finalize draft policies.

Organization Mission

The Bus for Outdoor Access & Teaching, or “BOAT,” strives to empower impact organizations to get more people outside. We put a full-service outdoor program in the hands of community leaders, addressing barriers to outdoor experiences. By honoring and enabling the vision of others, we leverage the power of time outside to help our partners achieve their mission.
