Establish Accounting System and Bookkeeping Procedures

Our preoperational men's shelter in Los Angeles is seeking a skilled accountant to help us build a solid financial foundation. We need a volunteer to design a basic accounting system that ensures transparency and sustainability as we prepare to open our doors.

The volunteer will:
1. Assess our current needs
2. Recommend the best accounting software for our scale (e.g., QuickBooks Online, Xero).
3. Create a tailored Chart of Accounts.
4. Develop a simple, step-by-step Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) for monthly bookkeeping and expense tracking.
5. Provide a handoff/orientation session via Zoom to train our leadership on using the system.

A reliable accounting system will help the shelter steward funds transparently and sustainably, enabling consistent delivery of services that support men experiencing homelessness to move toward stable housing and economic stability. Volunteers will directly strengthen the organization's capacity to serve clients.

We will schedule Zoom meetings to check-in. Details about timing, access, and existing paperwork will be provided during volunteer interviews. We seek a collaborative volunteer who will work with our leadership to produce implementable, easy-to-follow processes.
