Communications Plan for Statewide Senior Advocacy Organization

My goal for this Taproot Project is to create a comprehensive communications plan for Voices For Seniors. As we transition from a grassroots movement to a formal statewide advocacy nonprofit, we need a clear strategy for how we communicate with all of our key audiences — including legislators, donors, media, caregivers, seniors, and the general public. The deliverable should be a practical communications plan that outlines our key audiences, the right messages for each, the best channels to reach them, and a realistic cadence for outreach that a small all-volunteer organization can actually execute.

Through working with our organization on this project, the volunteer will support our mission by ensuring that Voices For Seniors communicates strategically and consistently at every level. We are fighting for accountability and systemic change for seniors across New York State — and that fight requires us to speak clearly and powerfully to the right people at the right time. A strong communications plan will help us build the relationships, visibility, and credibility we need to win.

We have a 5-year strategic plan and are currently completing a stakeholder mapping project through Taproot, which will give the volunteer a clear picture of our audiences and priorities. We also have a core messaging guide in development. These materials will give the volunteer a strong foundation to build the communications plan from, rather than starting from scratch. We are committed to implementing the plan and using it as our roadmap going forward.
