Core Messaging & Mission Statement Development

My goal for this Taproot Project is to create a clear, compelling, and consistent set of core messages for Voices For Seniors. This includes a refined mission statement, a vision statement, and a set of key messages we can use across all of our communications — with legislators, donors, media, and the public. As an organization transitioning from a grassroots grievance movement to a formal statewide advocacy nonprofit, we need language that is powerful, professional, and consistent. The deliverable should be a messaging guide we can reference across all platforms and in every conversation we have as an organization.

Through working with our organization on this project, the volunteer will support our mission by giving Voices For Seniors a clear and consistent voice. Right now we are entering rooms with legislators, potential board members, funders, and media — and we need messaging that immediately communicates who we are, what we stand for, and why it matters. Strong messaging is the foundation of every campaign we run, every grant we write, and every relationship we build. This work will directly amplify our ability to create lasting change for seniors across New York State.

We have developed a preliminary 5-year strategic plan that clearly outlines our mission, our history, and where we are headed through 2031. We can share this with the volunteer as a foundation for the messaging work. We know our story deeply — we were founded by daughters who lost loved ones among the 15,000+ seniors who died in New York nursing homes during the pandemic — and we are ready to translate that story into sharp, professional messaging that commands attention and respect.
