Board Development and Governance

TIFO's board has a history of being more of a technical advisory board. We would like to grow our board capacity toward a working board to assist our small full-time staff and help increase organizational capacity.

Outcomes and deliverables include:
- A consultant-led assessment of current board skills, experience, and diversity with identified gaps vs. TIFO's strategic plan. Assessment includes an analysis of current skills, experience, and diversity of our board members. Identify gaps in expertise necessary to achieve TIFO's strategic plan/goals and help us see our blind spots.
- A competency-based recruitment strategy and onboarding framework. Help TIFO move away from friendship-based recruiting to intentional, competency-based recruitment, ensuring new members have the skills, dedication, and value alignment required for TIFO's mission.
- A proactive board succession plan.
- Review and recommend board and ED evaluation tools.
- Review and recommend any bylaw/policy revisions.

Stronger, competency-based board governance will build organizational capacity to advance TIFO's work safeguarding environmental health through sound education and workforce development. Improved recruitment, succession, and evaluation will help catalyze change and ensure governance aligns with local knowledge and program goals.

TIFO leadership will collaborate with the volunteer to share the strategic plan and relevant documents, participate in interviews or workshops, and review drafts. Details will be provided during onboarding so the volunteer can access stakeholders and materials needed to complete recommendations.
