Payroll Tax Setup for One Employee

We are hoping to work with a volunteer to create a compliant payroll tax process for one employee. This pro bono project will include:
-Identify applicable federal and Louisiana withholdings and payees
-Compile required registration and mailing addresses
-Document calculation steps and filing timelines
-Recommend or configure a simple payroll automation
This work will help HDNA act collectively and manage problems by ensuring payroll compliance, reducing risk of tax errors, and improving financial transparency. Volunteers will enable the association to reliably pay its employee, build trust with residents, and focus more on community programs and participation. Making sure we do this right, puts our organization in proper standing with state and federal laws. Not doing it right means we could be subject to scrutiny that would diminish our capacity to do our work, because we would be spending energy on audits and such.
HDNA leadership supports converting this worker to an employee and will collaborate with volunteers. Success looks like clear written payroll steps, a list of required registrations/addresses, and an actionable process or payroll configuration HDNA staff can follow to begin compliant payroll. Our treasurer currently writes checks based on invoices I submit to her. The treasurer is a volunteer and I know she will write the check if I am able to give her the right information.
