My goal for this Taproot Project is to create a fully localized, high-quality non-Enghlish version of our web app’s user interface, with all English UI text removed and replaced by clear, culturally appropriate translations. We are seeking a skilled volunteer to review and refine existing translations for a web application, focusing on clarity, accuracy, and natural phrasing rather than translating from scratch.

Specifically, the volunteer will:

Review pre-translated UI strings (buttons, labels, error messages, onboarding text, and system messages)

Correct awkward phrasing, mistranslations, or unclear terminology

Ensure consistency of tone and terminology across the app

Flag any strings that may be too long or unclear in context

Provide corrected translations mapped to unique text keys (not just screenshots or free-text notes)

The total scope is intentionally limited and well-defined to fit a 2–5 hours per week commitment over several weeks.
Through working with our organization on this project, the volunteer will support our mission by making essential digital tools accessible to immigrants and underserved Americans who are often excluded by English-only technology.
Our platform is designed for immigrants, undocumented people, and LGBTQIA2S+ community members who navigate financial, employment, and immigration systems under significant barriers. Many of our users are non-English-speakers or bilingual and are locked out of critical tools due to poor or incomplete translations.
This project directly supports our mission by:
Removing language barriers to secure financial and legal tools

Improving trust and usability for users handling sensitive information

Helping people manage money, prepare immigration forms, and build résumés with dignity and privacy

The volunteer’s work will have an immediate, real-world impact on people who rely on technology to survive and stabilize their lives. The volunteer will have clear ownership over language quality and will be able to see their improvements live in the product as they are implemented. Because the platform handles sensitive financial and immigration information, precise and trustworthy language is essential.
My team and I have prepared for this project by centralizing all user-facing text and completing a full first-pass translation using AI and internal review. To ensure this project runs smoothly, we have:
Extracted all UI text into structured localization files (no hard-coded English in the interface)

Completed an initial AI-assisted translation to the language of your choice, preserving placeholders and formatting

Added context notes for strings where meaning, tone, or legal/financial accuracy matters

Set up a staging environment so translations can be reviewed in the actual interface

Defined a clear review workflow and success criteria

The volunteer’s edits will be implemented directly into the product by our technical team, and we will handle all engineering changes. The volunteer’s time will be spent only on language quality and usability, not technical tasks.
