We are seeking a skilled web designer with UX and information architecture expertise to help us define the structure, visual direction, and strategic foundation for a redesigned website for Badge Of Pride, a queer-led LGBTQ+ public history nonprofit.

Our website (badgeofpride.org), hosted on Wix, currently functions, but it no longer reflects the scale, seriousness, or cultural relevance of our work. We are mounting major exhibitions, stewarding a nationally significant LGBTQ+ archive, and engaging thousands of visitors and partners. Our digital presence needs to match that reality. The volunteer will help us translate our mission, audiences, and goals into a clear, actionable blueprint that we can confidently hand off to a developer or implement.

Key tasks include:
- Auditing our existing site for structure, clarity, and alignment with goals
- Identifying and prioritizing key audiences (general public, donors, media, partners, educators)
-Developing a proposed site architecture that clearly organizes exhibitions, programs, press/media, fundraising, and organizational information
- Exploring visual and UX directions that feel custom, elevated, and appropriate for an LGBTQ+ cultural organization—not a generic nonprofit template
- Creating wireframes or low-fidelity design concepts to illustrate layout, hierarchy, and flow
- Assessing our technical capabilities and constraints within Wix
- Producing a requirements and design briefing document we can use to guide future implementation

Deliverables:
- A clear, shareable package that includes site architecture, wireframes or visual concepts, and strategic guidance—designed to be usable by a web developer volunteer.

This project will take place over six to nine weeks, with an estimated commitment of 2–5 hours per week.

We are collaborative, responsive, and prepared to engage fully throughout the process.
Badge Of Pride exists to bring LGBTQ+ history into public space and make it visible, accessible, and accountable to the communities it comes from. Our exhibitions and programs challenge erasure and expand who sees themselves reflected in cultural institutions—especially in Texas, where this history has often been marginalized or ignored.

Our website is the front door to that work.

A strategic, well-designed site will:
- Help audiences understand why LGBTQ+ history matters now
- Make it easier for community members to engage with exhibitions and programs
- Strengthen fundraising by clearly communicating impact and urgency
- Improve media access to our work, increasing visibility and reach
- Support long-term sustainability by aligning storytelling, SEO, and donor pathways

By helping us build a digital foundation that reflects the seriousness and power of our work, this project directly advances cultural equity, public education, and LGBTQ+ visibility. Volunteers will be supporting a living, growing public history effort—one that reaches thousands of people and shapes how queer history is understood and valued.
We are well prepared and ready to move directly into productive work.

- Internal buy-in is secured for a full website redesign
- We have a clear understanding of our platform (Wix) and its limitations
- We have established brand norms, visual language, and tone
- We have defined our stakeholder groups and target audiences
- We have compiled photography, draft language, and sample websites we admire
- We have already completed Taproot informational sessions and are ready to execute

Most importantly, we know how we will use the outcomes of this project. The final deliverables will directly guide a future build, ensuring the volunteer’s work has lasting, real-world impact.

Organization Mission

Badge Of Pride's mission is to collect and activate artifacts from LGBTQ+ history to inform, enrich and engage the power of the contemporary Queer experience. We do this by stewarding a nationally significant archive of LGBTQ+ historical artifacts and activating it through museum-grade exhibitions, public programs, and performances. Our work places Queer history into visible, civic spaces and invites communities into direct engagement with the stories, movements, and cultural labor that shaped LGBTQ+ life. We envision a future where LGBTQ+ history is publicly visible, widely understood, and treated as essential cultural knowledge. A future where Queer lives are documented, interpreted, and shared with care—and where history operates as a tool for education, belonging, and collective accountability rather than something hidden or erased.
