We would like to work with a skilled volunteer to refresh and redesign the WaterWorks website to reflect our new branding and better connect with our key audiences. Our current site is built in WordPress and has a functional layout we like, but we’re open to improvements that would streamline user experience. We are also open to moving the site to a more user-friendly platform like Wix, if that would make long-term updates easier for our small team.

The primary tasks we’re hoping a volunteer can assist with include:

Updating the site with our new logo, fonts, and color palette

Helping us modernize the look and feel of the site with eye-catching elements like animations or dynamic layouts

Ensuring the new site is easy for non-technical staff to maintain

Integrating JotForm for waivers, registrations, and mailing list sign-ups

Exploring Canva integration, so we can easily update and share visual content from our communications materials

This project will directly support our mission of providing hands-on environmental education by helping us reach more teachers, families, and funders through a stronger digital presence.
WaterWorks exists to connect people to wetlands, water, and wildlife through hands-on environmental education. We offer school field trips, homeschool classes, adult workshops, and conservation programming that inspire curiosity and foster environmental stewardship.

But despite the impact we’re having, many people in our region still don’t know we exist.

This project will help us change that. By redesigning our website with a stronger, more engaging visual identity, you will help us reach:

Teachers looking for meaningful science field trips

Adults interested in environmental workshops and volunteer opportunities

Donors who want to support local conservation education

A refreshed and modern website will allow us to clearly communicate who we are, what we offer, and how the community can get involved. It will directly support our mission by increasing visibility, strengthening trust, and making it easier for people to take action—whether that means signing up for a class or donating to our programs.

Your time and talent will help make environmental education more accessible, more visible, and more impactful in North Alabama. We are excited to work with someone who shares our belief in the power of nature, education, and great design.
We’re well prepared to make this a smooth and successful project for both our team and our volunteer partner. We’ve already completed a prior Taproot Plus project (focused on branding), and our volunteer praised us for being organized, responsive, and easy to work with - qualities we bring to every collaboration.

For this website update, we’ve gathered all the key materials in advance:

Our brand kit is finalized and ready to go, including logo files, fonts, and colors.

We have a folder of high-quality images ready for integration.

I have a clear vision for the look and feel we’re aiming for and am prepared to communicate that vision clearly and provide prompt, thoughtful feedback throughout the process.

Once the project is complete, we will immediately implement the updates across our outreach and program communications. Because our website is a primary tool for reaching teachers, families, adult learners, and funders, this refresh will have an immediate and visible impact on our ability to connect with the community.

We’re committed to being excellent collaborators and making the most of this opportunity to grow.
