Board of Directors Assessment & Cultivation Volunteer

As the volunteer, you will collaborate with GDS’s Founder and Board Executive Committee to create an actionable plan to enhance our governance model.

This project will support GDS in strengthening its Board of Directors by focusing on governance assessment and board engagement planning. The volunteer will conduct a governance assessment and prepare a summary report with findings and recommendations, research and share resources to support future board member recruitment, and develop practical strategies to increase engagement among current Board members. Strengthening governance and Board engagement will help GDS better support its youth, seniors, and the communities it serves.

Your work will have a tangible effect on our ability to provide training and programs to strengthen resilience, reduce stigma, foster healing, and create community connection.

Your contributions are crucial to helping GDS assess its governance structure and identify and retain dedicated and engaged Board members who will support our mission to:

-build organizational capacity
-expand our ability to offer our signature Training Institute to a wider audience
-strengthen our existing programs which, along with training and education, includes youth development, mental health and well-being, intergenerational programs and advocacy, nourish our youth, seniors, and their communities to reach their full potential!

In preparation for this project, GDS has manual tools and resources for Board development and recruitment, along with a Board member position description. GDS has developed a strategic plan for 2026 that strengthens our mission statement. We have a wealth of written and visual resources to support the volunteer’s understanding of our mission, the communities we serve, our challenges and successes, and our vision for a successful future. You will have access to the leadership team and Board Executive Committee who will provide clear direction, communication and feedback to ensure you are successful in your work.
