We are US-based, though our projects are all in Kenya. We have an In-Country Director and an In-Country Accountant in Kenya. We would really value an experienced volunteer to help set up a system that coordinates the reporting for US and KE financial activity. Our In-Country Accountant is excellent. He produces monthly financial reports based on our Kenya banking.

We're looking for a US-based volunteer with experience setting up a bookkeeping system. You'll help us set up the recording, reconciliation, and reporting practices by spending approximately 20 hours with us over 4-5 weeks. In our first meeting, we'll share a detailed description of our existing financial record-keeping and reporting systems.

We need someone on the US side to help us create a system that:

a) produces financial reports monthly
b) creates sub-categories of expenses and income to distinguish activity and funds within specific projects
c) confirms that funds sent from the US are spent in Kenya as designated
d) streamlines an existing system of documenting and tracking donor contributions.

Ideally, the volunteer would be willing to both set up this system and train someone on our team to maintain the set up.
MEA is new, but the Executive Director has been doing this work as an individual for 20 years. He is supported by donors who are assured that their contributions are spent in service of the mission. Working in Kenya, corruption is always a concern. In order to maintain the trust of our donors, MEA must be able to account for every shilling spent. We are doing that, but the process needs to be more efficient. Refining our financial accountability is critical for attracting and keeping donors and therefore making the huge impact to vulnerable individuals and communities that MEA is created to serve.
We have a system in place and a qualified bookkeeper and an excellent administrative assistant. But the system needs refining.
