Business exchanges
Agree on three core elements: cost in credits, exchange method (pickup/delivery/digital), and payment terms (immediate/milestone-based)
Use structured forms (not freeform chat) to propose and confirm these terms with smart defaults and validation
Initiate the transaction once both parties agree, creating a pending transaction record in our credit system
See confirmation that the exchange is ready to proceed
Technical components include:
Structured proposal forms with validation
Confirmation workflow UI (review → accept/counter → finalize)
Transaction initiation logic connecting to the existing mutual credit system
State management for proposal/counter-proposal flow
Integration with existing opportunity and user profile data
Success looks like: Two businesses can go from discovery → structured proposal → agreed transaction entirely within the app, without requiring external coordination (email, phone, text). Optional extended engagement: If the initial sprint goes well and you're interested, there's an opportunity to continue with implementing the inquiry/response messaging system (additional 2-4 weeks).
The "last mile" problem you'll solve:
Right now, when Business A wants to fulfill Business B's need, they have to coordinate delivery via email, text, or phone calls outside our platform. This friction significantly limits transaction volume. Your work will remove this barrier entirely - enabling businesses to complete exchanges seamlessly within the app.
Direct community impact:
More transactions = more thriving businesses: By making exchanges effortless, we dramatically increase the volume of credit-based trades, meaning more small businesses can access the services they need without spending cash
Local supply chain formation: When businesses can easily exchange services (tax preparation ↔ logo design, catering ↔ web development), they form interdependent local networks that keep resources circulating in the community
Economic resilience: Businesses using mutual credit are less vulnerable to cash flow problems and can continue operating during economic downturns
Real-world example of impact:
A graphic designer needs accounting services but is low on cash. An accountant needs branding work. Your structured exchange flow will enable them to propose, agree on terms, and complete this trade in minutes - building economic value for both businesses without a single dollar changing hands.
Scale potential:
We're migrating users from our legacy app with existing credit balances. Once your exchange flow is live, these businesses can immediately start trading at scale. Your 2-4 weeks of work will unlock economic activity for an entire community of small businesses, creating the foundation for sustainable local economies.
Technical foundation ready:
Full-stack web app already built using React Router v7 (Framework Mode), Tailwind CSS, Postgres database (Prisma ORM), hosted on Fly.io via Docker
Third-party integrations already complete: Clerk (authentication) and Cloudinary (image storage)
Complete wireframes ready to implement - no design ambiguity
API endpoints already designed and documented - clear technical specifications
Comprehensive technical documentation outlining data models, validation rules, and system architecture
Support structure in place:
Software development board member available for technical guidance
Small team of volunteers already familiar with the codebase who can answer questions and review code
Partnership with Develop for Good on UX design - ensuring the implementation follows user-tested patterns
Clear project scope and success criteria already defined
Implementation path:
Once you deliver the structured exchange flow, our internal team will test it with our existing community of small businesses, gather feedback, and iterate. This feature directly enables our transition from manual coordination to seamless in-app exchanges, which is critical for scaling our platform. Your work will immediately go into production and serve real business transactions.
