We are seeking a volunteer to work with our team to develop a comprehensive fundraising plan for Generation Mental Health (GenMH), a youth-led nonprofit empowering young people with lived experience of mental health challenges to design and lead culturally relevant, community-centered initiatives worldwide.

We are hoping for support with the following tasks:

- Review current fundraising and revenue strategies.
- Identify opportunities across grants, contracts, major donors, earned-income model and crowdfunding.
- Draft a written fundraising plan with clear goals, strategies, timelines, and revenue targets.
- Provide recommendations on donor stewardship, prospecting, and fundraising tools/processes.

We will provide background on programs, revenue streams, and fundraising history, along with internal strategy documents and a dedicated point of contact for check-ins. We expect this project to take 20–25 hours over 6–8 weeks (remote and flexible).
This plan will serve as a cornerstone for growth, enabling us to secure resources to expand youth-led mental health initiatives globally and transition from a volunteer-driven model to a sustainable organization.

This fundraising plan will be the roadmap that enables us to make that transition. By identifying diverse revenue streams and clear fundraising strategies, the plan will support us in securing the resources to hire staff, sustain our current programs, expand our initiatives, and deepen collaboration with partners.

For our community, this means that youth-led mental health projects will not only continue but grow; reaching more young people, amplifying lived experience leadership, and building long-term impact. Your contribution as a volunteer will directly help us take this next big step from a passionate volunteer-driven movement to a sustainable global organization.
Our team has already gained internal buy-in and identified fundraising as a top organizational priority for 2026. We have gathered background materials, including notes on our current fundraising efforts, potential grant opportunities, and ideas for earned income streams. We also have a clear sense of upcoming grant deadlines (e.g., Saks, Lululemon, Responsible Technology Fund) and know where we need strategic guidance to build a comprehensive plan.

We are also committed to implementing the outcomes of this work. Once the fundraising plan is developed, our team will use it to guide grant applications, donor outreach, and business development over the next 12–18 months. We have team members who will lead on grant applications, donor engagement and business development, and your recommendations will directly shape our next year of fundraising activities. We will schedule regular check-ins, provide timely feedback, and ensure you have the context you need so that this collaboration is smooth and impactful.

Organization Mission

Generation Mental Health (GenMH) is building a generation of mental health advocates, researchers and innovators that represent the communities they serve. The history of global mental health has been top down, where oppression determines whose symptoms are taken seriously, the research that is funded, and the types of solutions that are deemed legitimate. At GenMH, we believe that young people, particularly those with lived experience of mental health challenges, are uniquely well positioned to make innovative and culturally-relevant changes in the mental health of their communities. It is therefore our mission to elevate the voices of young people with lived experience to disrupt existing inequitable power dynamics and empower those closest to the issue to take action to improve the mental health of their communities. We do this through offering accessible capacity strengthening opportunities for young people with lived experience of mental ill-health, distress or trauma, enabling them to lead mental health initiatives, research, and advocacy in their communities.
