Donor Research: Strategic Giving & Partnership Insights

My goal for this Taproot Project is to build a curated list of potential funders—individuals, foundations, and philanthropists—who align with our clean energy and equity-focused work in Ghana. We’re seeking a volunteer to:

-Research 10–15 prospective major donors or institutional funders
-Write 2–3 sentence summaries about each lead’s interests and alignment
-Identify key connections (e.g., LinkedIn relationships, philanthropic history)
-Organize results in a searchable tracker or slide deck

We’ll provide a list of priority themes (climate justice, women’s empowerment, energy access), sample formats, and context on our current donor tiers and segmentation strategy.

Through working with our organization on this project, the volunteer will play a direct role in helping us grow our funding pipeline—ensuring that our clean energy initiatives like Sunrise Spectrum and GCEEI can scale to reach more communities.

Your research will support the cultivation of funders who care deeply about climate resilience, community empowerment, and energy justice. This foundational work will drive real-world impact for families in Ghana gaining access to solar energy and clean cookstoves for the first time.

We’ve identified clear research criteria and have existing records to build from. You’ll be supported with templates, access to our internal donor profile framework, and examples of past successful outreach.

Our team is available for weekly check-ins and will provide feedback on research quality and prioritization. Collaboration will happen in Google Sheets/Docs, and we’re flexible on tools based on your preferences.
