Volunteer And Intern Onboarding Development
Project Overview:
We are seeking a skilled Taproot volunteer to help us create a comprehensive Volunteer and Intern Onboarding Program for Long Covid Families (LCF). As a nonprofit organization, we rely heavily on the contributions of dedicated volunteers and interns to advance our mission of raising awareness about pediatric Long COVID and advocating for equitable access to medical care and education.
This program will ensure that volunteers and interns feel welcomed, informed, and empowered to contribute meaningfully to our organization. By standardizing the onboarding process, we aim to improve engagement, retention, and the overall experience for volunteers and interns.
Key Goals for Volunteer Assistance:
Onboarding Materials:
Develop a clear and engaging volunteer handbook that outlines LCF’s mission, values, policies, and procedures.
Create role-specific onboarding guides for key volunteer and intern positions.
Orientation Program:
Design an interactive orientation process, which may include virtual presentations, videos, or FAQs, to introduce new volunteers and interns to LCF’s work.
Provide recommendations for tools or platforms to facilitate online onboarding.
Training Modules:
Develop training materials to help volunteers and interns understand their roles, expectations, and how their work supports LCF’s mission.
Incorporate practical resources such as task guides, communication protocols, and organizational workflows.
Engagement and Feedback:
Create a system for gathering feedback from new volunteers and interns about the onboarding process to continuously improve the program.
Provide guidance on ways to recognize and celebrate the contributions of volunteers and interns.
Impact of Your Support:
A robust onboarding program will:
Improve volunteer and intern satisfaction by providing clarity, structure, and a sense of belonging.
Enhance productivity by equipping individuals with the knowledge and tools they need to succeed in their roles.
Strengthen LCF’s ability to scale operations and increase impact by maintaining an engaged, well-prepared team.
-Conducting an audit of our existing policies including reviewing our existing materials and asking any clarifying questions
-Identify policies that we should modify and any new policies or areas that should be addressed and included
-Present a detailed outline of a new handbook
-Finalize the handbook after receiving feedback from our team
This project directly supports Long Covid Families’ mission to accelerate pediatric Long COVID research, advocate for equitable access to medical care and education, and support the mental health of children and families affected by Long COVID.

Increase Engagement and Retention: A welcoming and structured onboarding experience will foster a stronger sense of connection and commitment, enabling the organization to build and maintain a reliable volunteer base.
Enhance Organizational Capacity: Equipping volunteers and interns with the tools and knowledge they need will allow the organization to expand its reach, improve program delivery, and make a greater impact in supporting families and advocating for change.
To ensure the success of this project, Long Covid Families is committed to providing the necessary support, structure, and resources to enable a productive and collaborative engagement with a skilled Taproot volunteer.

Engagement and Feedback
Regular Check-Ins: Weekly or bi-weekly meetings will be scheduled to discuss progress, provide feedback, and address any questions or challenges.
Collaborative Approach: The organization is open to the volunteer’s expertise and recommendations to create a program that is both effective and engaging.
Implementation Plan
